Fear of high price in Ramadan product

On February 02, 2025 (BSS), in Dhaka, Commerce Adviser SK Bashir Uddin consoled that the price of essential products will not expand during the soon-to-come month of Ramadan; the government has already taken necessary preparations for this.

He speaks at a legislative session titled “Affordable Pricing of Goods: Discovering Market Surveillance Strategy” and confirmed that including groceries such as sugar, rice, oil, and dates will be available in shops.

Even though international prices are increasing for different provisions, he said that the price of the local market should truly decrease.

He also mentioned that there is no purpose in increasing prices, and they logically discuss it. All short- and long-term plans will progress on this strategy.

After all these, he also focused on controlling bodies, involving the Competition Commission, Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection, and the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), to assert market reliability.

Accosting, they were exported to India, maybe 500,000 to 600,000 tons of rice bran oil. He added that if that oil is restocked in the local market, that will support the oil market to stabilize it.
