For the second day container transport has been delayed at Chittagong port

Just four hours after they had dispelled their preceding strike- as the transport workers afresh went on work forbearance today morning, Container transport to and from Chattogram port stay ceased for the second sequent day.

At 6 am today, after a 34-hour work cessation, drivers of container-carrying prime movers recommence work.

While it failed to gather one of the key requirements made by the movers, they once again stopped managing their vehicles at 10 am, declaring that the district administration did not sustain its word. The port’s operations, this development severely impacted.

Though a day-one vessel left the port today after delaying its scheduled withdrawal, as they could not be delivered to the port in time, leaving behind a crucial volume of export containers. Three other keels also adjourn their scheduled departures today.

On Wednesday, the Colombo-bound vessel, AS Sicilia, had initially delayed its departure. By nightfall, awaiting the deadlock to be resolved so that it could apprehend enough volume of exports.

As reported by port sources, the vessel, which was scheduled to take a total of 786 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of export-laden containers, was only able to receive 545 TEUs. Two other Colombo-bound vessels—HR Shahare and HR Hera—were also scheduled to depart the port today.

The topical shipping agent for the two vessels, who is an official of Karnaphuli Shipping, on Tuesday afternoon anchored at the port jetty, which has stated that HR Shahare was only able to load 20 but had bookings for 900 TEUs of export-laden containers.

Because of the non-operation of prime movers, not a single export container could be delivered from private depots.

Concurrently, HR Hera was only capable of receiving 30 TEUs out of its booked 200 TEUs.

Furthermore, only 8 TEUs of export containers out of the scheduled 60 could be loaded onto the vessel. The Singapore-bound vessel Yuan Xiang Fa Zhan postponed its departure.
