Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), the interim government has prolonged the tenure of the administrator through four months to facilitate the biennial election of the trade body.
Md Anwar Hossain’s tenure, the BGMEA administrator and vice-chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau, has been prolonged through June 16, and that will be productive from February 17, 2025. On 05 February by the commerce ministry, based on a circular issued.
Last year, on August 24, the government assigned Hossain to the post after the resignation of the association’s selected president, SM Mannan Kochi.
The commercial ministry stated in an announcement that the board had been formed in a faculty manner, though a new board was developed after Kochi’s resignation.
However, according to the circular, the revived board failed to appropriately address complaints increased by the general member.
Within 120 days of Hossain’s appointment, it was assumed to create the environment for a free and fair election. But unfortunately, the administration could not hold the election on time.
