A man was arrested on Tuesday (February 21) over a case filed over gang-rape of a garment factory worker in Munshiganj’s Sirajdikhan upazila. Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanul Haque on Wednesday (February 22) confirmed the prime accused Nurul Islam Nuru had been arrested from the locality through a drive.
The confession came during the initial interrogation, revealed the OC.
Quoting the case facts, the OC stated that the victim, a Narayanganj garment worker, was traveling to her husband in Munshiganj’s Baluchar by auto-rickshaw on February 6. As they were on their way through the DC Project area in Baluchar, the accused and another individual, Arif Sarkar (30), blocked the vehicle, pointed sharp weapons at her, and pushed her into a secluded area beside the Dhaleshwari River, where they raped her.
The victim filed a case yesterday under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Sirajdikhan Police Station against five individuals. Inspector Habibur Rahman, who is also the investigating officer, informed that the arrested suspect was produced before court today and work towards arresting the others is in progress.
