Was the Minister of Liberation War Affairs a true freedom fighter or a fraud?”

Allegations against the former Minister of Liberation War Affairs challenge the truth of his Freedom Fighter status. Investigation underway.

The mass uprising of the student community ousted the Sheikh Hasina government, leaving a rare roar in politics  but was the Minister of Liberation War Affairs truly a freedom fighter or was he fake? In a twist that feels almost too surreal to believe the very person once responsible for preserving the legacy of Bangladesh.

Former Liberation War Minister AKM Mozammel Haque faces investigation over alleged fake freedom fighter claim as JAMUKA probes 22 high-profile individuals. He is a prominent figure in Sheikh Hasina’s previous governments, has become the center of a national controversy that is raising serious questions about the authenticity of official freedom fighter records.

The National Freedom Fighters Council known as JAMUKA has taken the decision to investigate claims that Mozammel Haque along with six other former ministers and fifteen high-profile individuals including lawmakers, judges, former bureaucrats and senior security officials may have falsely claimed freedom fighter status. If the allegations are proven true their certificates and gazette recognitions will be canceled.

The controversy is not entirely new. It dates back to 1996 when Haque’s name was first included in a government gazette listing freedom fighters. That inclusion sparked criticism even in the National Parliament due to the lack of documentation proving his training or participation in the war. Despite the questions he remained silent on the issue for years.

Now following JAMUKA’s 95th meeting on April 13 the council has decided to verify the documents related to twenty two individuals. This includes reviewing applications investigation reports meeting summaries gazette entries and any other proof of participation in the Liberation War.

Mozammel Haque’s name is missing from the official list of over fifty one thousand individuals who received training in India during the war. Allegations also suggest that an old record at the National Museum was altered to insert his name retroactively. For a country that holds the spirit of 1971 close to its heart this investigation may be more than just about paperwork. It is about protecting the truth of history.
