DMP Bans Public Protest
In an effort to maintain order and ensure the safety of Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced a temporary ban on all public gatherings near key government areas in the city.
A public notice issued by DMP on Saturday stated that it is effective immediately no meetings, protests, processions or public assemblies will be allowed around the Bangladesh Secretariat, the Chief Advisor’s official residence “Jamuna,” and nearby locations. This includes major points such as the Hotel Intercontinental intersection, Kakrail Mosque intersection, Officers’ Club area, and Mintu Road.

The move comes under Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/76), giving DMP the authority to impose such restrictions when necessary for public safety.
According to the notice, these steps are being taken “to maintain law and order and ensure the security of the Chief Advisor.” The ban will remain in place until further notice. This decision is expected to impact any planned demonstrations or processions in the capital specially in the politically sensitive zones close to government institutions.
