Chittagong University (CU) has awarded Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the Caretaker Government, with an honorary Doctor of Literature (D.Litt) degree. The honor was presented during the university’s 5th convocation ceremony held on Wednesday, May 14.
Chief Advisor Delivers Convocation Speech
In addition to being awarded the honorary degree, Dr. Yunus spoke at the convocation. He expressed his opinions and urged the graduates to serve the country honourably and devotedly in his speech.
More than 22,000 graduates show up for the ceremony
22,560 graduates who earned their undergraduate and graduate degrees attended the convocation ceremony. The occasion was one of the most important convocations in the university’s history because of the size of the crowd.

PhD and MPhil Degrees Awarded
Alongside the graduation certificates, Chittagong University also awarded 22 researchers with PhD degrees and 17 scholars with MPhil degrees. These degrees were given to recognize their contributions to academic research.
Certificates that the Vice-Chancellor has signed
Each graduating student was given their certificate, which was formally signed by the university’s vice chancellor. Getting the certificate straight from the institution gave their academic accomplishments a unique significance.
Notable Guests and Speakers
Several important guests attended the ceremony. Among them were:
- Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiq-ul-Abar, Education Advisor, who gave a speech.
- Professor Dr. S.M.A. Faiz, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), also spoke at the event.
Additionally, Dr. Muhammad Yunus was accompanied by other advisors, including Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan.
First Convocation Since 2016
This was the first convocation held by Chittagong University since 2016. The university administration took extensive preparations to ensure the event was successful and memorable for all attendees.
