A newly married woman named Jannat Akter (18) has killed her husband, Mehedi Hasan (27), in Akhaura, Brahmanbaria, by giving him sleeping pills. According to the police, she admitted during initial questioning that she killed her husband by pressing a pillow on his face and strangling him due to problems in their married life.

This incident took place late Friday night in the village of Mosjidpara, located in the Akhaura municipal area.
What the Victim’s Family is Saying
Mehedi Hasan’s family claims that this was a planned murder. They believe that Jannat killed her husband because of an extramarital affair. The victim’s mother, Bokul Akter, and elder brother, Abu Kalam, said that Jannat had a lover and planned the murder with him. They are demanding a proper investigation and strict punishment for the crime.

About the Marriage
It was found that Mehedi Hasan and Jannat Akter were married only one week before the incident. The marriage was arranged by both families. After the wedding, they started living together. But within a few days, they began to have disagreements and arguments.
How the Murder Happened (According to the Police and the Accused)
While in police custody, Jannat told the police that she pretended to be sick on Friday afternoon and asked her husband to buy some sleeping pills from a local pharmacy. Mehedi went and brought the medicine. Later at night, after he returned home, she mixed the sleeping pills with a soft drink and gave it to him.
Once Mehedi became unconscious, Jannat pressed a pillow on his face and strangled him until he died.
Police Statement
Akhaura Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Mohammad Shomiuddin, confirmed the incident to Jamuna News. He said that Jannat confessed to the murder after being arrested. She said that her husband had been physically abusing her after their marriage. To escape the abuse, she made a plan to kill him. She asked him to bring the sleeping pills, mixed them with a soft drink, and then suffocated him when he became unconscious.
The OC also informed that Jannat has been arrested, and the police are now preparing to present her in court.
