Nusrat Faria

Popular Bangladeshi actress Nusrat Faria has been detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka while she was preparing to travel to Thailand on Sunday, May 18. She was initially held by immigration police and later transferred to Vatara Police Station. However, she has not yet been officially shown as arrested in any case. Authorities have since taken her to the Detective Branch (DB) office for further questioning.

According to Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mazaharul Islam of Vatara Police Station, Nusrat Faria is named as an accused in an attempted murder case filed during the 2024 anti-discrimination movement in the capital. The case alleges that she supported the suppression of the student-led protests by financing ruling party activities. She is accused of being a financial backer of the Awami League during the movement.

The case was filed by Enamul Haque at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, 283 known individuals, and an additional 300–400 unidentified persons. The plaintiff claims that while protesting, he was shot in the right leg and lost consciousness as a result.

The case alleges that substantial funds were provided by the accused, including Nusrat Faria, to suppress the student protests. Authorities are currently verifying whether Nusrat Faria is linked to any other cases before deciding under which charges, if any, she will be officially arrested.
