Nahid Islam, a key leader of the July Uprising and founder of Bangladesh’s National Citizen Party (NCP), shared a strong message on Facebook regarding the future of Bangladesh’s politics. He called for national unity, reforms, and the protection of the country’s sovereignty. Here is a breakdown of the key points from his post:
Vision: An Independent and Sovereign Bangladesh
The primary objective, according to Nahid, is to guarantee that Bangladesh’s political system functions autonomously and with complete sovereignty by releasing it from all forms of domination, both internal and external.
Concerns Over Past Political Manipulation
He mentioned that Bangladesh has been divided multiple times, and national unity has been intentionally destroyed. According to Nahid, this was done to weaken the country strategically.

Warning About Current Instability
He warned:
“আওয়ামী লীগকে নিষিদ্ধ করার পর থেকে আবারো দিল্লী থেকে ছঁক আকা হচ্ছে দেশে অস্থিতিশীলতা তৈরি করার, দেশকে বিভাজিত করার। গণতান্ত্রিক রুপান্তরকে বাধাগ্রস্ত করে আরেকটা এক-এগারোর বন্দোবস্ত করার পাঁয়তারা চলছে।”
Translation: “Since the banning of the Awami League, new plans are again being drawn up from Delhi to create instability in the country, to divide the nation. There are attempts to block democratic transition and arrange for another 1/11-style setup.”
Resistance to Fascism and Foreign Influence
He urged locals, students, and religiously inclined patriots to band together against fascism and foreign dominance in all its manifestations. He also called on the patriotic military officers and soldiers to be ready to defend the sovereignty of Bangladesh.
Role of Dr. Yunus
Nahid emphasized that Dr. Muhammad Yunus must protect the people’s promises for reform, justice, and voting rights. According to him, Yunus should remain active in his responsibilities and solve the political crisis through leadership.
Key Demands and Roadmap
The post concluded with several specific demands and expectations:
- July Declaration Must Be Delivered on Time
- He stressed that the “July Declaration” must be published within the declared timeframe.
- Elections and Reforms Roadmap
- National elections must be held within the announced schedule.
- A reform charter called “July Sanad” (Declaration) will be written before the elections.
- Justice for the “July Massacre” must begin before the election, and a clear roadmap for justice should be presented.
- Elections for both a new Constituent Assembly and Parliament must take place at the same time to write a new constitution.
National Unity Must Be Restored
Nahid Islam emphasized that Bangladesh has been repeatedly divided, and its national unity has been destroyed to weaken the state intentionally. He wrote:
“Bangladesh has been divided again and again. National unity has been destroyed in order to keep Bangladesh weak.”
