“Not Just for 3 Months – Bulbul Lead BCB with No Time Limit”

Bulbul

Former Bangladesh cricket team captain Aminul Islam Bulbul has officially taken charge as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). While announcing his leadership role, Bulbul made it clear that his position is not limited to just three months.

No Time Limit on Presidency

Speaking at a press conference on Friday evening (30th May) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Bulbul said:

This is not just a three-month role. My presidency has no specific time limit.”

Grateful to the ICC
Bulbul also expressed his gratitude to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and shared how much he has learned from them.

“I’m thankful to the ICC. I’ve learned a lot about management from them. They have encouraged me to serve my country. I don’t have any fixed contract with the ICC for a certain time period.”

Quick T20 Style Leadership

Using a cricket metaphor, Bulbul compared his leadership to a T20 innings:

“যেহেতু সময়টা অনেক কম। টেস্ট ম্যাচ পাঁচ দিনের হয়, ওয়ানডে হয় ৭ ঘণ্টার। আমি একটা কুইক টি-টোয়েন্টি ইনিংস খেলতে এসেছি। একটা ভালো টি-টোয়েন্টি ইনিংস খেলবো, যেটা আপনারা অনেক দিন মনে রাখবেন।”

Translation: “Since there’s not much time, I’m not here for a five-day Test or a seven-hour ODI. I’ve come to play a quick T20 innings. I’ll play a good T20-style knock that people will remember for a long time.”

Future Plans for Bangladesh Cricket

The new BCB president mentioned that he has many plans to move Bangladesh cricket forward:

“I will try my best to take cricket ahead. We already have several plans, and we’ll start implementing them from tomorrow.”

Comment on Shakib Al Hasan

When asked about star cricketer Shakib Al Hasan, Bulbul praised him:

“Shakib is one of the best all-rounders. But an advisor is not a selector. Selectors will do their job independently.”

How Bulbul Became BCB President

Aminul Islam Bulbul was elected BCB president during an emergency board meeting held on Friday afternoon (30th May). The board directors voted him into the role. He will remain president until the next official BCB election.

In addition to Bulbul, Nazmul Abedeen Fahim was elected as the senior vice-president, and Fahim Sinha was elected as the vice-president.

Appointment by the National Sports Council (NSC)

Earlier that day, the National Sports Council (NSC) officially nominated Bulbul as a BCB director. According to a notification, this was done under Article 13.2 (b)(4) of the BCB constitution.

Controversy Around Faruque Ahmed

The day before (Thursday night), the NSC cancelled the nomination of former director Faruque Ahmed. After this, rumours spread that he had left the country. However, Faruque denied these claims in an interview:

“There’s no question of leaving the country. Have I committed a crime? Why would I leave?”

A Look Back at Bulbul’s Cricket Career

Aminul Islam Bulbul led Bangladesh in the 1999 Cricket World Cup. He was also the first Bangladeshi cricketer to score a Test century.

After retiring from international cricket, he moved to Australia. There, he completed Level 2 coaching certification and joined the coaching panel of the University of New South Wales. Later, he returned to Bangladesh and guided Abahani to win the Dhaka Premier League title.
