Israeli PM’s Bold Statement in Interview
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that killing Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei would not increase the ongoing conflict but end it. He made the statement during an interview with ABC News on Monday (16 June).
“I’ll Do What Needs to Be Done” – Netanyahu
When asked whether Israel is planning to target Khamenei, Netanyahu replied,
“I’m doing what I need to do.”
He also said he won’t go into full details but admitted that Israel has already targeted Iran’s top nuclear scientists, calling them “Hitler’s nuclear team.”

Disagreement with Trump’s Concern
The interviewer, ABC’s chief political correspondent Jonathan Karl, asked about former US President Donald Trump’s concerns that killing Iran’s top leader would cause even more tension in the Middle East.
Netanyahu disagreed and said such a move would actually help stop the conflict, not make it worse.
“Iran Wants Endless War” – Netanyahu
Netanyahu also claimed that Iran has been spreading terrorism for over 50 years in the Middle East. He accused Iran of:
- Supporting attacks like the Aramco oil field strike in Saudi Arabia
- Spreading terror, conspiracy, and destruction in the region
- Bringing the world closer to nuclear war
He said Israel’s actions are meant to stop Iran’s aggression, and the world must stand against this “evil power.”
Trump Reportedly Blocked Israeli Plan to Kill Khamenei
According to Reuters, two U.S. officials revealed that Donald Trump recently blocked an Israeli plan to kill Khamenei.
A senior U.S. official told Reuters,
“Iran hasn’t killed any Americans yet. As long as that doesn’t happen, we’re not even considering targeting their political leadership.”
Iran Seeks Regional Support to Calm the Tension
Meanwhile, Iran has reached out to Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, requesting them to persuade Trump to push Israel toward a ceasefire.
In return, Iran has promised to show flexibility in nuclear negotiations.
However, a planned nuclear talk in Oman was canceled last Sunday due to Israel’s recent airstrikes.
Trump told Reuters last Friday,
“We knew everything about Israel’s actions.”
