There is to be a new private university named “Grameen University” installed in the country’s capital city Dhaka, with the government’s approval. Yesterday, on Monday, the Ministry of Education issued an approval letter to Md. Ashraful Hasan, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the university. The order provides provisional approval to open and operate “Grameen University” subject to 22 conditions.

With this new addition, the number of private universities approved in the nation is 116, even though some are yet to commence. Terms of approval include a conditional approval of seven years, compliance with all the terms and conditions of the Private University Act, 2010, and having a building of not less than 25,000 square feet on freehold or leasehold. The proposed university should consist of at least three faculties having not less than six departments in each. The university will also have a reserve amount of at least 1.5 crore BDT in any scheduled bank.
