A warning of Metro Rail shutdown

If a comprehensive employment policy is not formulated within the next three working days, the permanent officers and employees recruited through direct open recruitment by Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) have announced that they will refrain from operating the metro rail. They issued this warning through a press release sent to the media on Monday (February 17). The press release stated that a strong demand was made for the formulation of an employment policy for the permanent officers and employees recruited through direct open recruitment by DMTCL. In response, the senior authorities of DMTCL held detailed discussions on the draft employment policy until February 17 and assured that they would formulate a comprehensive policy through a board meeting after necessary amendments to the draft.

Earlier, on September 12, the advisor to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges had issued instructions to formulate a comprehensive employment policy. However, even after five months, it has not been formulated for some mysterious reason. Due to the absence of such a policy, more than 200 locally and internationally trained skilled officers and employees of DMTCL have resigned from their jobs. As a result, the operation and maintenance of the metro rail are at risk. Issuing a warning, the press release stated that if the comprehensive employment policy is not formulated within the next three working days (February 18-20), metro rail services will be suspended from February 21 (Friday). If the residents of Dhaka are deprived of metro rail services, the relevant authorities of DMTCL will bear full responsibility.
