ADB Satisfied with Bangladesh’s Economic Progress

ADB Satisfied with Bangladesh

The Asian Development Bank has expressed satisfaction with Bangladesh’s recent economic progress. During the 58th annual ADB meeting held in Milan, Italy, this appreciation was conveyed in a high-level discussion. Economic advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed stated that ADB is pleased with Bangladesh’s development specially its graduation from the list of least developed countries and its overall economic resilience.

ADB Vice President Praises Those Progress

According to Dr. Salehuddin, Yingming Yang theVice President of ADB for South, Central and West Asia said during the meeting that  “Compared to many other countries, Bangladesh’s economic achievements are commendable. We are happy with this progress.”

ADB clarified that it is closely observing Bangladesh’s economic trajectory and remains committed to supporting its development efforts.

Support for Reforms in Banking and Revenue

The discussion also covered the ongoing structural reforms in Bangladesh. ADB assured necessary technical and financial assistance, particularly in improving the banking sector and the National Board of Revenue.

Dr. Salehuddin noted that “To make our banking and revenue systems more efficient, international cooperation is essential. ADB has expressed interest in this area which is highly encouraging for us.”

Realistic and Implementable Budget Ahead

Dr. Salehuddin assured that the national budget for the 2025 to 2026 fiscal year will be both realistic and implementable. The key focus will be on reducing unnecessary expenditure, improving efficiency and ensuring that all development projects are well evaluated and effective.

Infrastructure Projects to Continue

It was also mentioned that ADB will continue supporting Bangladesh’s ongoing infrastructure projects and will be actively involved in implementing new pipeline projects.

Bangladesh’s ongoing mega projects such as the next phase of the Padma Bridge, the Karnaphuli Tunnel, urban development, energy and transport modernization will continue to receive long term assistance from ADB.

Current Status of Bangladesh’s Economy

This praise from ADB comes at a time when the global economy is struggling with uncertainty. Despite recession fears, inflationary pressures and geopolitical instability in Bangladesh has managed to maintain key economic indicators.

Bangladesh Bank’s reserve management, remittance inflow, diversification in export sectors and food security measures have helped strengthen confidence in the country’s economy. ADB believes that if this trend continues, Bangladesh could emerge as a model of an emerging middle income country within the next few years.

The most significant message from the discussions in Milan is that Bangladesh is no longer just a country of potential. It is steadily becoming a successful example of stable and real development. When a global financial institution like they’re recognizes this progress, it enhances the country’s image on the international stage with new credibility and pride.
