Adviser Asif Mahmud’s Facebook Post
On Wednesday night (October 8), Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud made a Facebook post criticizing those talking about “safe exits.”
He wrote that some people who hold multiple passports and foreign citizenships are the same ones preparing “safe exit lists” for others.
“যাদের একাধিক দেশের পাসপোর্ট, নাগরিকত্ব নেয়া তারাই আবার অন্যদের সেফ এক্সিটের তালিকা করে। যারা ৫ আগস্ট পালিয়েছিল তাদের সিমপ্যাথাইজাররা কষ্টে মরে যাচ্ছে। বারবার ফ্যাসিস্টদেরই পালাতে হবে। আমাদের জন্ম এদেশে মৃত্যুও এদেশের মাটিতেই হবে ইনশাআল্লাহ। ফ্যাসিস্ট, খুনিদের সাথে লড়তে লড়তে আমার ভাইদের মতো শহীদী মৃত্যু কামনা করি।”
Translation: “Those who have taken passports and citizenships of other countries are the ones making ‘safe exit’ lists for others. The sympathizers of those who fled on August 5 are suffering in pain. The fascists will have to flee again and again. We were born in this country and will die in this land, InshaAllah. I wish for a martyr’s death like my brothers while fighting against fascists and killers.”

Background: The “Safe Exit” Controversy
The issue of advisers planning for a “safe exit” came up after Sarjis Alam, the convenor of the National Citizens Party (NCP), made remarks in a television interview.
He claimed that some advisers were forming connections with political parties and planning ways to leave the country safely.
“উপদেষ্টাদের অনেকেই বিভিন্ন রাজনৈতিক দলের সঙ্গে লিয়াজোঁ করে ফেলেছে, তারা নিজেদের সেফ এক্সিটের (নিরাপদ প্রস্থান) কথা ভাবতেছে।”
Translation: “Many advisers have already made liaisons with different political parties and are thinking about their own safe exits.”
Rizwana Hasan’s Reaction
Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, Environment and Climate Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan responded to Nahid Islam’s comments, denying the allegation that advisers were seeking exits.
“উপদেষ্টারা সেফ এক্সিট খুঁজছে, নাহিদ ইসলামের এই বক্তব্য তাকেই প্রমাণ করতে হবে। আমি কোনো এক্সিট খুঁজছি না। দেশেই ছিলাম, বাকিটা জীবনও বাংলাদেশেই কাটাবো।”
Translation: “Nahid Islam must prove his claim that advisers are seeking safe exits. I am not looking for any exit. I was in this country and will live here for the rest of my life.”
