Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, adviser to the interim government’s Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Local Government, has accused former Dhaka South City Corporation mayoral candidate Ishraq Hossain of running a propaganda campaign after failing to assume the mayoral position.
Allegations Made on Social Media
In a verified Facebook post on Tuesday afternoon, Asif Mahmud expressed his frustration, claiming Ishraq and his allies are misusing a seized television channel.
He wrote:
“কোর্টের মারপ্যাচে এবং সরকারি সিদ্ধান্তে মেয়াদ শেষ হওয়ার পরও মেয়র হতে না পেরে ইশরাক ভাই ও কায়কোবাদ সাহেব জোট বেঁধে তার দখলকৃত টিভি দিয়ে এসব প্রোপাগান্ডা ছড়ানোতে নেমেছে। সেখানে জুলাই গণ-অভ্যুত্থানে হত্যা মামলার এক আসামিকে নিয়ে এসে ভিকটিম হিসেবে উত্থাপন করা হচ্ছে, সেলুকাস।”
“Due to court complications and government decisions, Ishraq Bhai could not become mayor. Now, along with Mr. Kaykobad, he is spreading propaganda through a seized TV channel. They are even portraying a murder case accused from the July uprising as a victim—what nonsense!”

Who’s Behind the Scenes?
Asif also claimed that in the triple murder case in Muradnagar, one of the accused is Shah Junun Bushri, the brother of Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaykobad. He alleged that Bushri was seen celebrating the murders on social media.
“মুরাদনগরে তিন খুনের ঘটনায় অভিযুক্ত শাহ মোফাজ্জল হোসেন কায়কোবাদের ভাই শাহ জুন্নুন বুশরী। ঘটনার পর সামাজিক মাধ্যমে উল্লাস প্রকাশ করতেও দেখা যায় তাকে। অথচ এই ঘটনায়ও আমার নাম জড়ানো হলো।”
“In the Muradnagar triple murder case, the accused is Mr. Kaykobad’s brother, Shah Junun Bushri. He was even seen rejoicing on social media after the incident. Yet somehow my name is being dragged into it too.”
Asif: “I Wasn’t Even in the Area”
Asif Mahmud claimed neither he nor his family visited the area for the last three months. He believes the so-called ‘victim’ was influenced later by political rivals to name him falsely.
“গত তিন মাস ধরে আমি বা আমার পরিবারের কেউ এলাকায় যাইনি। ভিকটিমও প্রথম দিকে আমাদের নাম নেয়নি। কায়কোবাদ সাহেবের লোকজন এক মাস পর তাকে দিয়ে এসব বলাচ্ছে।”
“For the past three months, neither I nor my family went to the area. Initially, the victim never mentioned our names. One month later, Kaykobad’s people started pushing him to say these things.”
“Media Control Can Do Anything”
He warned that with control over the media; criminals can twist the truth and paint themselves as victims while vilifying others.
“মিডিয়া দখলে থাকলে কি না করা যায়? থানা ভাঙচুর, হত্যা মামলার আসামি, মার্ডার করে উল্লাস করা—সবাই এখন ভিকটিম আর আসিফ মাহমুদ ভিলেন।”
“With control over the media, anything is possible. From attacking police stations to celebrating murders—those people are being shown as victims, while I am made the villain.”
“I’m Just a Middle-Class Man Trying to Help”
Describing himself as an ordinary man with no political or financial backup, Asif said he only tried to work for the people.
“আমার না আছে এস্টাবলিশমেন্টের ব্যাকআপ, না আছে অর্থনৈতিক ভিত্তি। শুধু মানুষের জন্য কাজ করতে চেয়েছি, কিন্তু সেটাও আর সম্ভব হবে বলে মনে হচ্ছে না।”
“I don’t have establishment support or financial power. I only wanted to serve the people—but it seems that may no longer be possible.”
Muradnagar Election Link Suspected
Asif concluded that the Kaykobad family might be acting aggressively because of his potential candidacy in Muradnagar.
“মুরাদনগরে তার এমপি নির্বাচনে অংশ নেওয়ার সম্ভাবনা থেকেই কায়কোবাদ পরিবার বেপরোয়া হয়ে উঠেছে।”
“The Kaykobad family has likely become reckless because I might contest in the upcoming Muradnagar MP election.”
