The responsibilities for the education, employment, and welfare of Felani’s siblings and family have been taken on by the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan on 08 january, 2025. In the need of the country and the nation we all must remain united.
On January 7, 2011, a Bangladeshi girl named Felani, who had previously worked as a domestic helper in New Delhi, was shot dead by BSF forces near the Anantapur border point in Kurigram district as she and her father crossed a barbed-wire fence on their way home. Later, BSF troops hanged her body on the barbed-wire fence along the border.
A picture of Felani’s body hanging upside down from the barbed wire went viral, sparking a massive worldwide outcry over her death. One day after her murder, the BSF men turned over the body.
The event has since been a rallying cry for justice and the protection of human rights along border areas.
