The President has appointed 25 people as additional judges in the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. This includes Deputy Attorney General Advocate Md. Lutfar Rahman, who is the father-in-law of Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) leader Sarjis Alam. The notification said that the appointment will be effective for a period of not more than two years from the date of taking oath. Lutfar Rahman himself was a former leader of Chhatra Dal and former vice-president of Barguna district BNP.
Appointment of 25 judges
On Monday (August 25), the Law Ministry issued a notification appointing 25 people as additional judges in the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, pursuant to the order of the President.
The notification states,
‘গণপ্রজাতন্ত্রী বাংলাদেশের মহামান্য রাষ্ট্রপতি গণপ্রজাতন্ত্রী বাংলাদেশের সংবিধানের ৯৫(১) অনুচ্ছেদ অনুসারে বাংলাদেশের প্রধান বিচারপতির সঙ্গে পরামর্শক্রমে সংবিধানের ১৮ অনুচ্ছেদ মোতাবেক নিম্নের ১-২৫ ক্রমিকের উল্লিখিত ২৫ জন ব্যক্তিকে শপথ গ্রহণের তারিখ থেকে অনধিক ২ বছরের জন্য বাংলাদেশ সুপ্রিম কোর্ট, হাইকোর্ট বিভাগের অতিরিক্ত বিচারক নিয়োগদান করেছেন।’
Translation: “The Honorable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, in consultation with the Chief Justice of Bangladesh, has appointed the 25 persons listed below in the order 1-25 as Additional Judges of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, High Court Division, for a term not exceeding 2 years from the date of taking the oath in accordance with Article 95(1) of the Constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, in accordance with Article 18 of the Constitution.”

Lutfar Rahman, Appointment on special grounds
Among those appointed is Deputy Attorney General Lutfar Rahman. He is the father-in-law of Jatiya Nagorik Party leader Sarjis Alam. Assistant Attorney General Jamiul Haque Faisal told Dhaka Post,
সদ্য বিচারপতি নিয়োগ পাওয়া ডেপুটি অ্যাটর্নি জেনারেল লুৎফর রহমান ছাত্রদলের সাবেক নেতা, বরগুনা জেলা বিএনপির সাবেক সহ-সভাপতি। সার্জিস আলমের শ্বশুর হওয়ার আগেই তিনি ডেপুটি এটর্নি জেনারেল হয়েছিলেন। তিনি নিজের যোগ্যতায় আজ বিচারপতি হিসেবে নিয়োগ পেলেন।
Translation: The newly appointed Deputy Attorney General, Lutfar Rahman, is a former leader of Chhatra Dal and former vice-president of Barguna district BNP. He became Deputy Attorney General before becoming Sargis Alam’s father-in-law. He was appointed as a judge today in his own right.

- Registrar General of the Supreme Court
- Solicitor
- Secretary of the Judicial Service Commission
- Seven Deputy Attorneys General
- 9 Supreme Court lawyers
