A Historic Victory After 6 Years

Abdur Rahman Alif, a 19-year-old archer from Bangladesh, has won a gold medal in the men’s recurve individual event at the 2nd leg of the 2025 Asia Cup Archery tournament. Roman Sana won gold in this event in 2019, making him the second Bangladeshi to do it.

Beating Japan in a Thrilling Final

Alif defeated Gakuto Miyata of Japan with a score of 6-4 in set points in the final match held at the Bukit Gombak Stadium. From the very start, Alif showed great performance.

  • Set 1: Alif won 28-27

  • Set 2: Alif won 27-26

  • Set 3: Lost 27-28

  • Set 4: Lost 26-27

  • Set 5 (Final Set): Alif made a strong comeback, winning 29-26

This final win secured him the gold medal.

Breaking a Long Wait

Before Alif, Roman Sana was the only Bangladeshi to win gold in the Asia Cup Archery, back in 2019 (Leg-3). With this win, Alif has ended a 6-year wait for another gold in this tournament for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh’s Only Medal in This Edition

In the second leg of the 2025 Asia Cup, Alif’s gold was the only medal won by Bangladesh. The tournament featured 30 medal events.

  • India won the most medals: 9 in total, including 2 golds

  • Indonesia came second with 5 medals, also including 2 golds
