Doctors Fought Hard to Save Him
At a press briefing on Monday, Professor Dr. Nasir Uddin, Acting Director of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, shared details of Navid’s treatment journey.
He said,
“On July 21, Milestone student Navid Newaz suffered severe burns in the plane crash. Initially, he was taken to CMH and later brought to our hospital with 45% burns. We began his treatment immediately and performed 36 surgeries.”
He added that Navid spent 22 days in ICU, 35 days in HDU, and 40 days in an isolated cabin. Treating him was extremely challenging.

Dr. Nasir further explained the critical nature of Navid’s condition:
“আপনারা জানেন ফুসফুস আক্রান্ত হয়ে যদি ফুসফুস কাজ করে না, তখন তার ফুসফুস পানিতে ভরে যায়। এরপর আমরা তাকে আইসইউতে উপুড় করে শুইয়ে তার চিকিৎসা করেছি।”
Translation: “When the lungs fail and fill with fluid, we had to turn him over on his stomach in the ICU to help him breathe — a very difficult procedure.”
He mentioned that many patients in similar condition did not survive, but the doctors never gave up on Navid. The director also confirmed that five more injured patients from the same incident are still being treated and may be discharged within the next week.

The Day of the Tragedy
On July 21, a Bangladesh Air Force training jet crashed shortly after takeoff due to mechanical failure. The plane fell onto a building on the Milestone School & College campus in Diabari, setting it ablaze. The massive fire caused heavy damage and resulted in the deaths of 31–36 people, most of whom were young students.
The pilot, Flight Lieutenant Md. Toukir Islam, reportedly tried his best to steer the aircraft away from densely populated areas to minimize casualties.
In the aftermath, the government declared one day of national mourning to honor the victims of the devastating tragedy.
