Algeria Offers Free Land to Bangladeshis for Mango Farming

A special meeting titled “Opportunities for Agriculture-Based Trade and Investment with Algeria” was held on Friday afternoon at the Chapainawabganj Chamber of Commerce building. The event was organized by the Chapainawabganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Bangladesh-Algeria Business Forum.

Algeria Interested in Mango Farming with Bangladesh

At the meeting, Algerian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Mr. Abdelouahab Seddik Saidani, said that Algeria wants to grow mango orchards with the help of Bangladeshi farmers. He mentioned that there is a lot of unused land in Algeria, and they are eager to use it for mango cultivation.

Free Land and Full Facilities Promised

Ambassador Saidani assured that Bangladeshis will be given land for free if they go to Algeria and start mango farming there. In addition, the government will provide electricity, gas, and other necessary facilities to support them.

Direct Flights to Strengthen Relations

He also shared that efforts are being made to start direct flights between Bangladesh and Algeria. This will help to improve trade and strengthen ties between the two countries.

Impressed by Chapainawabganj Mangoes

Akhtarul Islam, Vice President of the Chamber, said that the Algerian ambassador was greatly impressed by the mango production in Chapainawabganj. The ambassador invited mango growers from the region to visit Algeria to check the soil and climate and see if it’s suitable for mango farming.

Trade and Export Opportunities

Ali Haidar Chowdhury, Secretary General of the Bangladesh-Algeria Business Forum, said the ambassador is working hard to build stronger trade relations with Bangladesh. He believes this could open the door for exporting Bangladeshi mangoes and mango-based products to Algeria.

Munjer Alam, Secretary General of the Chapainawabganj Agriculture Association, added, “We are looking for opportunities to export mangoes and processed mango products to Algeria.”

Other Guests at the Event

The event was presided over by Khairul Islam, Senior Vice President of the Chamber. Other speakers included Mohammad Nurul Mostafa, President of the Bangladesh-Algeria Business Forum, along with local business leaders and agriculture experts.
