Nationwide Closure of Jewellery Businesses
All jewellery businesses across Bangladesh have been shut down indefinitely. This decision was made as a protest against the arrest of Md Riponul Hasan, the Vice-President of the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS).
The association is also demanding his unconditional release, claiming that the case filed against him is false and intended to harass him.
Arrest of BAJUS Vice-President
Md Riponul Hasan was arrested by law enforcement officers around 7:30 PM on Wednesday evening. He was taken into custody from his own jewellery business located in the Tantibazar area of Dhaka.
Following his arrest, BAJUS issued an official statement at night announcing the closure of all jewellery shops across the country.
