Fourth-grade student, who went to collect flowers to pay respects at the Shaheed Minar (Martyrs’ Monument), has been reported raped in Mithapukur Upazila of Rangpur. The incident occurred around 6:00 AM on Friday.
Rafiquzzaman, the officer-in-charge of Bairati Police Investigation Center, confirmed the incident. He stated that the seriously ill student has been admitted to the One-Stop Crisis Center at Rangpur Medical College Hospital. A case has been filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Mithapukur Police Station.
According to police, the victim’s family, and local residents, the child went to Ruhul Amin’s (55) house to collect flowers to pay tribute to the language martyrs around 6:00 AM on Friday. Ruhul Amin is a surveyor by profession. While the child was collecting flowers from their garden, Ruhul Amin forcibly took her inside and raped her. Hearing the child’s screams, some worshippers returning home after Fajr prayers went to the house and rescued her. The accused fled at that time. The child was first admitted to Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to the One-Stop Crisis Center at Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
Rafiquzzaman, the officer-in-charge of Bairati Police Investigation Center, said that an operation is underway to arrest Ruhul Amin.
