To combat Animal Skin Smuggling in Eid ul-Adha, BGB has launched a high-tech crackdown in Habiganj, deploying drones and CCTV to secure the Bangladesh-India border and protect local farmers.
As the holy festival of Eid ul-Adha approaches, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has ramped up surveillance efforts to prevent the smuggling of cattle and sacrificial animal skins along the Bangladesh-India border in Habiganj. Leveraging technology, BGB has deployed drones and CCTV cameras to monitor border activities more effectively.
The update came during a press briefing on Friday, June 6, when Lieutenant Colonel Tanzilur Rahman, Commander of BGB Battalion 55, shared the details with the media.

He explained that CCTV cameras and drone surveillance have been intensified to closely track illegal activities involving sacrificial animal hides. In addition to anti-smuggling efforts, the BGB is also working to prevent illegal border crossings (push-ins), maintain law and order, and ensure peaceful Eid congregations in the border areas.
The BGB commander emphasized that these steps are primarily aimed at protecting local farmers’ interests and stabilizing the market during this crucial season. During the briefing, it was also revealed that the Habiganj battalion of BGB has seized contraband Indian goods, narcotics, and vehicles worth approximately BDT 17.4 crore so far this year as part of ongoing anti-smuggling operations.
