The trial of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the international crimes tribunal against humanity case has begun. Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman, representing the state, demanded the maximum punishment against Sheikh Hasina. He said that Sheikh Hasina is a dictator and a liar who has introduced a culture of disappearances, murder and corruption in the name of the spirit of the liberation war.
The trial of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for crimes against humanity has begun at the International Crimes Tribunal. In his opening remarks on Sunday (August 3), Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman, the country’s chief legal officer, said,
ব্যক্তি নয় অপরাধই মূখ্য। ব্যক্তি যেই হোক সে অপরাধ করলে তার বিচার করার জন্য আমরা সংকল্পবদ্ধ। যে কারণে আমরা বিচার চাই। আজকের দিনটি ঐতিহাসিক। পৃথিবীর ইতিহাসে শেখ হাসিনার মত কোনো স্বৈরাচারের জন্ম হয়নি। তিনি পৃথিবীর শ্রেষ্ঠ মিথ্যাবাদী স্বৈরাচার।
Translation: The crime is important, not the person. We are determined to try the person, whoever he is, if he commits a crime. That is why we want justice. Today is a historic day. No dictatorship like Sheikh Hasina has been born in the history of the world. She is the world’s best lying dictatorship.

Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman said,
কোনো স্বৈরাচারকে মিথ্যার ওপর পিএইচডি করতে হলে শেখ হাসিনার কাছে শিখতে হবে। পৃথিবীর সব স্বৈরশাসকের যদি কোনো সমিতি করা হয়, শেখ হাসিনা হবেন তার সভাপতি। বাংলাদেশের ভবিষ্যতের স্বার্থে, ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্মের স্বার্থে স্বৈরাচার ও তার সহযোগীদের সর্বোচ্চ শাস্তি আমরা চাই। মানব সভ্যতার ইতিহাসে এই বিচার একটি মানদণ্ড হয়ে থাকবে। আমরা চাই শেখ হাসিবার বিরুদ্ধে যাতে কোনো ‘ক্যাঙ্গারু কোর্ট’ এর মাধ্যমে বিচার না হয়।
Translation: If a dictatorship wants to do a PhD on lies, it must learn from Sheikh Hasina. If an association of all the dictators of the world is formed, Sheikh Hasina will be its president. For the sake of the future of Bangladesh, for the sake of future generations, we want the maximum punishment for the dictatorship and its associates. This trial will be a benchmark in the history of human civilization. We want no ‘kangaroo court’ to be used against Sheikh Hasina.
At the same time, Tajul Islam, Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal, said,
জাতীয় ও আন্তর্জাতিক মানদণ্ড মেনে বিচার পরিচালিত হবে। বলেন, শেখ হাসিনার বিচার অতীতের হিসাব মেটানো নয়, এটি বিচার ব্যবস্থায় জনগণের আস্থা পুনঃস্থাপনের একটি প্রক্রিয়া। আজ ‘রাজসাক্ষী’ হওয়া সাবেক আইজিপি চৌধুরী আবদুল্লাহ আল-মামুনকে আনা হয় ট্রাইব্যুনালে। সাক্ষ্য দিচ্ছেন জুলাই আন্দোলনের আহতরা।
Translation: The trial will be conducted in accordance with national and international standards. He said that the trial of Sheikh Hasina is not about settling past scores, it is a process of restoring public confidence in the judicial system. Former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who became a ‘royal witness’, was brought to the tribunal today. Victims of the July movement are testifying.
