An army official has been killed by robbers during a raid in Cox’s Bazar’s Chakaria.
The incident occurred in the Maizpara area of Dulhazara Union around 3:30am on Tuesday.
The army official was rushed to the Ramu CHM in critical condition and died while undergoing treatment early in the morning, said Md Manzur Kader Bhuiyan, chief of Chakaria Police Station.
The deceased has been identified as Tanzim Sarwar Nirjan (BA-11453), a lieutenant in the army.
OC Bhuiyan said that a joint forces team led by Lt Tanzim conducted the operation after reports that a gang of 10-12 robbers were attacking the home of Maizpara village resident Rezaul Karim.
The robbers attempted to flee when they noticed the presence of the joint forces team, but six of them were detained, including gang members Ziabul and Belal, the OC said. A pickup truck, a motorcycle, a firearm, and knives were also seized from the detainees.
