World Record Attempt on Victory Day
On 16 December, Bangladesh’s Victory Day, a group of 54 paratroopers will attempt to set a world record by parachuting while carrying the national flag.
Among them will be Ashiq Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA).

Jump Dedicated to Sharif Osman Hadi
Ashiq Chowdhury will take part in the jump wearing a helmet painted with the image of Sharif Osman Hadi, the spokesperson of Inqilab Manch and a possible independent candidate for Dhaka-8.

Official Statement from the Press Wing
The press wing said:
“১৬ই ডিসেম্বর মহান বিজয় দিবসে ৫৪ জন প্যারাট্রুপার বাংলাদেশের পতাকা নিয়ে বিশ্ব রেকর্ড গড়তে যাচ্ছেন। এই ৫৪ জনের একজন আশিক চৌধুরী জাম্প করবেন ওসমান হাদির ছবি আঁকা হেলমেট পরে। বিজয়ের দিনে স্বাধীনতা ও সার্বভৌমত্বের ভ্যানগার্ড ওসমান হাদির দ্রুত আরোগ্য কামনায় সকলকে দোয়া ও প্রার্থনার আহ্বান জানাই।”
Translation: “On 16 December, Victory Day, 54 paratroopers will attempt a world record carrying the national flag. One of them, Ashiq Chowdhury, will jump wearing a helmet painted with Osman Hadi’s image. On this day of victory, we call on everyone to pray for the speedy recovery of Osman Hadi, a vanguard of independence and sovereignty.”
Victory Day Events in Tejgaon
On Victory Day morning, the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force will conduct separate fly-past rehearsals at the old Tejgaon airport in Dhaka.
A special Victory Day band show will also be held. From 11:40 AM, the 54 paratroopers of “Team Bangladesh” will perform parachuting with flags to mark 54 years of independence. The event will be open to the public.
Background: Hadi’s Current Condition
It is worth noting that Sharif Osman Hadi was shot in Dhaka on Friday (12 December) while campaigning as a potential independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency.
Since that night, he has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital.
