As the heat in Bangladesh becomes almost unbearable, the residents and industries of Ashulia are facing another battle. It is a vital industrial zone near Dhaka. Ashulia suffers a 41% power shortfall, leaving both homes and factories facing frequent blackouts. With temperatures soaring, daily life has become extremely difficult.
Residents report enduring power cuts lasting 5 to 7 hours daily, sometimes more. Siraj Khan, a laundry shop owner shared that “I used to iron over 100 clothes a day now I can barely manage 20.” The situation is no better for local industries. M Khorshed Alam of Little Star Spinning Mills, said that “We’re dealing with 9 to 11 hours of outages a day. Electricity powers 20% of our operations, and it’s hurting us badly.”
According to Dhaka Palli Bidyut Samity-1, Ashulia’s Jamgora and Yarpur areas receive only 59MW of electricity against a demand of 100MW. Across the board, the region gets just 368MW, falling short of the 491MW needed—an alarming 123MW deficit.

Not all areas are equally affected. Some zones near the local Palli Bidyut office face shorter, less frequent outages. Meanwhile, nearby regions under Samity-3, like Hemayetpur and Savar, enjoy more stable supply.
Still, for most of Ashulia, the impact is severe. From students unable to study, to factories losing productivity, the shortage is more than an inconvenience—it’s a daily struggle. As these power shortfall, it calls attention to the urgent need for reliable, equitable energy solutions.
