Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain: “People Didn’t Sacrifice Lives for Just an Election”

Thakurgaon, Dec 25, 2024 – Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has emphasized that the sacrifices of thousands were not solely for elections or votes, but for the end of autocratic rule and the establishment of a reformed, democratic system.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday morning after distributing winter clothes to the underprivileged at Baliadangi Upazila Parishad Hall, Mahmud declared, “The one-point demand of this mass uprising is the downfall of Sheikh Hasina’s autocratic rule and the abolition of fascism.”

Highlighting the deteriorating state of the nation, he said, “Bangladesh’s institutions have been crippled under fascism. Financial institutions have been destroyed, and the need for reform is critical.”

According to Mahmud, over 2,000 lives have been lost, and more than 20,000 people have been injured during the struggle. He pointed out that the families of these martyrs and the injured demand sweeping reforms to rectify the nation’s course.

“Our commissions have been working diligently for the past three months to develop proposals for institutional reform. After consulting stakeholders, we will implement these reforms before moving towards an election,” he assured.

Mahmud reiterated that the sacrifices of thousands were not in vain and that their legacy would be honored through meaningful changes in governance.
