A 51-Year-Old Candidate Steps Forward
Shahriar Morshed Khan, a 51-year-old student of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, has officially become a candidate in the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RAKSU) election.
On Wednesday (3 September 2025) at around 1:00 pm, Morshed collected his nomination paper to run for the position of Publicity and Publication Secretary.
His Statement After Nomination
After submitting his nomination, Morshed expressed his hopes and determination.
He said:
“গণযোগাযোগ ও সাংবাদিকতা বিভাগের চতুর্থ বর্ষের শিক্ষার্থী আমি। রাকসুতে প্রচার ও প্রকাশনা পদের জন্য মনোনয়ন নিয়েছি। আমার বয়স ৫১ বছর। আমি আশাবাদী, কারণ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষক কর্মকর্তাসহ বিভিন্ন বিভাগের শিক্ষার্থীরা আমাকে চিনেন, ভালোবাসেন, অনুপ্রেরণা দেন। আশা করি একজন সংগ্রামী মানুষ হিসেবে সবাই আমার পাশে দাড়াবে ও ভোট দিবে। আমি জয়ী হলে সাধারণ শিক্ষার্থীদের হয়ে কাজ করব।”
Translation:
“I am a fourth-year student of Mass Communication and Journalism. I have taken the nomination for the Publicity and Publication post in RAKSU. My age is 51 years. I am hopeful because teachers, officials, and students from different departments know me, respect me, and encourage me. I believe, as a struggling person, everyone will stand by me and vote for me. If I win, I will work for the ordinary students.”

Educational Journey and Career Break
Morshed shared that he had previously been a student at Chittagong University’s Public Administration Department in 2002. However, due to family circumstances, he had to leave his studies at that time.
Later, he worked for many years in different private companies. But eventually, he felt the need to resume his education.
He explained:
“তারপরে আমি অনেক দিন বিভিন্ন কোম্পানিতে চাকরি করি। একটা সময় মনে হলো আবার পড়াশোনা শুরু করা দরকার। তখন আমি কারিগরি শিক্ষা বোর্ডের আন্ডার আবার পড়াশোনা শুরু করি। ২০১৭ সালে এসএসসি ও ২০২০ সালে এইসএসসি পরীক্ষা দেই। তারপর ২০২০-২১ শিক্ষা বর্ষে রাবিতে পরীক্ষা দিয়ে ভর্তি হই।”
Translation:
“After that, I worked for many years in different companies. At one point, I felt the need to start studying again. I began studying under the Technical Education Board. In 2017, I completed SSC and in 2020, I passed HSC. Then, in the 2020–21 academic session, I took the admission test at Rajshahi University and got admitted.”
Family Life and Present Circumstances
Morshed revealed that he is married and has four daughters. Recently, one of his daughters, who is a final-year student in Political Science at RU, got married.
He said:
“আমি বিবাহিত, আমার চারটি কন্যা সন্তান আছে। একটা মেয়ের বিয়ে দিয়েছি গত মাসে। সে রাষ্ট্রবিজ্ঞান বিভাগের ফাইনাল ইয়ারের শিক্ষার্থী। আমি হবিবুর রহমান হলের আবাসিক শিক্ষার্থী আর আমার জামাই জিয়া হলের আবাসিক শিক্ষার্থী।”
Translation:
“I am married and have four daughters. One of them got married last month; she is a final-year student of the Political Science department. I live in Habibur Rahman Hall as a residential student, and my son-in-law is a residential student at Zia Hall.”
Morshed’s hometown is in Rajapur village, Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj district.
Election Context
The nomination collection deadline for the RAKSU election also ended on 3 September 2025. On the same day, the dope test deadline was also completed.
By the end of the day, two candidates submitted nominations for Senate posts and eleven candidates for central positions.
