In a shocking and brutal incident, an auto-rickshaw driver was tied to a tree and severely beaten before his leg tendon was cut in Anwara upazila of Chattogram. The attackers suspected him of stealing a battery.
Victim Identified as Local Auto Driver
The victim was identified as Nizam Uddin, also known as Abdul Mannan (age 32), a resident of Shah Mazar Bari in Barumchhara Union. His father’s name is Abu Shama.
The incident occurred around 4:30 AM on Monday (July 28) in front of the Madhumizi Mosque in Barumchhara Union’s Ward-5.
Victim’s Brother Filed Case
Nizam’s brother, Nazim Uddin, filed a case with Anwara Police Station later that day. The case named three specific people and listed 15 to 20 unidentified individuals involved in the assault.
Two Brothers Arrested in Police Operation
Police arrested two brothers connected to the attack.

Both are sons of deceased Shamsul Alam and residents of Bordaro Bari in Ward-5, Barumchhara Union.
Vicious Attack Over Theft Suspicion
According to police sources, the attackers suspected Nizam of stealing a battery. Monsur and his relatives allegedly tied him up with a rope, hit him on the head with a sharp weapon, and then cut the tendon of his right leg.
This happened around 3:00 AM on Sunday night, near Soudagor Dighi area.

Family Rescued the Victim
After receiving news of the attack, Nizam’s brother Nazim rushed to the scene and rescued him in critical condition. He was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for emergency treatment.
Local Leader Confirms Incident
Local UP member Abdul Malek confirmed the brutal attack.
“চোর সন্দেহে যুবককে মারধর করে হাসপাতালে পাঠানো হয়েছে আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনীর সহায়তায়।”
“The young man was beaten on suspicion of theft and sent to the hospital with help from law enforcement.”
He added:
“তার মাথায় ধারালো অস্ত্রের আঘাত ও পায়ের রগ কাটা ছিল।”
“There was a sharp weapon injury on his head, and his leg tendon was cut.”
Doctor’s Statement
A doctor at Anwara Upazila Health Complex said:
“মাথা ও পায়ের রগ কাটা অবস্থায় রোগীকে প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসা দিয়ে মেডিকেলে রেফার করা হয়েছে।”
“The patient had head injuries and a cut tendon. After first aid, he was referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.”
Victim’s Condition is Critical
Nizam’s brother said:
“চিকিৎসকরা জানিয়েছেন ভাইয়ের ডান পায়ের রগ কেটে গেছে, অতিরিক্ত রক্তক্ষরণে অজ্ঞান হয়ে পড়ে।”
“Doctors told us his right leg tendon was cut, and he lost consciousness due to heavy bleeding.”
Police Confirm Arrests
Anwara Police Station OC Md. Monir Hossain said:
“মামলার পর অভিযান চালিয়ে দুই আসামিকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়েছে, তাদের আদালতে পাঠানো হবে।”
“After the case was filed, we arrested two accused. They will be sent to court soon.”
