A landmark move to modernize traffic regulation, an automated case system targeting speeding violations has been quietly introduced on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway, marking the first instance of AI-based traffic enforcement in the country.
According to a confirmed official source, the system has been operational for nearly a week, utilizing high-definition surveillance cameras and video analytics technology to monitor and record vehicle speeds across designated segments of the expressway. Vehicles that exceed the legal speed limit are automatically flagged by the system.

Once a violation is detected, the elevated expressway authority compiles the footage and relevant data, which is then forwarded to law enforcement agencies. After that, notices are issued to the registered owners of the violating vehicles. These individuals are instructed to report to a designated police station for follow-up investigation and legal processing.
This initiative represents a significant step in digitizing traffic enforcement in Dhaka and enhancing public safety. The Dhaka Elevated Expressway, infrastructure project inaugurated partially in 2023, was designed to ease traffic congestion in the capital. Since its opening, the roadway has witnessed heavy usage, prompting concerns about driver behavior and speed violations.
Officials believe this automated enforcement system will act as a strong deterrent against reckless driving, thereby encouraging greater compliance with traffic laws and reducing the risk of accidents on the expressway.
