Attack on Police During Special Operation

A violent clash took place in Rajibpur Upazila of Kurigram when police went on a special operation to stop alleged anti-government activities. According to police sources, officers received information about a secret meeting in Char Sajai Mondolpara village, where people were reportedly planning to overthrow the government and cancel the “July Declaration.”

When police reached the spot on Friday evening, they claimed that some Awami League activists, led by Upazila Awami League General Secretary Humayun Kabir (Shakku), began throwing bricks and stones at them.

Policeman Bitten, Detainee Snatched Away

Police managed to detain Humayun Kabir during the operation. However, the situation turned chaotic when Awami League workers surrounded the police and attacked them. In the chaos, one of the officers was bitten on the hand, and Kabir was forcefully taken away from police custody.

According to police, SI Golam Mostafa, ASI Ahsan Habib, ASI Jayanta, and Constable Yasin, along with two others, were injured in the attack.

Police Statement on the Incident

Rajibpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shariful Islam described the incident, saying:

“সরকার উৎখাতের পরিকল্পনায় গোপন মিটিংয়ের খবর পেয়ে আমরা সেখানে যাই। পুলিশের উপস্থিতি লক্ষ্য করেই আওয়ামী লীগের নেতাকর্মীরা ইট-পাটকেল ছুড়তে শুরু করে।”

Translation: “We went there after receiving news of a secret meeting to plan the government’s overthrow. As soon as they saw the police, the Awami League activists began throwing bricks and stones.”

He added:

“এক পর্যায়ে আমরা হুমায়ুন কবিরকে আটক করি, পরে তারা মব সৃষ্টি করে আমাদের ওপর হামলা চালায়।”

Translation: “At one stage, we detained Humayun Kabir, but later they formed a mob and attacked us.”

“নিজের ব্যবসার জন্য এখন নিজের ওয়েবসাইট — মাত্র কয়েক মিনিটে Storola দিয়ে!”

Case Filed Under Anti-Terrorism Act

Police have filed a case against 20 identified persons and 300–400 unidentified individuals under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Two suspects — Rahim Ahmed (25) and Yakub Ali (25) — have already been arrested and sent to court.

Following the incident, the atmosphere in Rajibpur has become tense. Police officials said the area has become almost deserted after the case was filed, as many locals have gone into hiding fearing arrest.
