Ban on Awami League Activities
Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul said there is no chance of lifting the ban on Awami League’s activities. He made this statement on Wednesday (October 1) while speaking to journalists in Barishal after visiting a Puja mandap.
He explained,
“একটি দলের কার্যক্রম যখন নিষিদ্ধ করা হয়, তখন নিষেধাজ্ঞা স্থায়ী না অস্থায়ী এ ধরনের প্রশ্ন থাকে। কিন্তু বাস্তবিক অর্থে বর্তমানে আওয়ামী লীগের কার্যক্রমের ওপর দেয়া নিষেধাজ্ঞা উঠিয়ে নেয়া হবে এরকম কোনো সম্ভাবনা আমি দেখছি না।”
Translation: “When a party’s activities are banned, people ask whether the ban is temporary or permanent. But in reality, I do not see any possibility of lifting the ban on Awami League’s activities at this moment.”

Possible Trial of Awami League as an Organization
Dr. Nazrul further said,
“বরং আমি যতটুকু জানি, আন্তজার্তিক অপরাধ ট্রাইবুন্যালের প্রসিকিউশন দল আছে। তাদের পক্ষ থেকে সংগঠন হিসেবে আওয়ামী লীগের বিচার চাওয়ার পদক্ষেপ নেয়া হচ্ছে।”
Translation: “As far as I know, the prosecution team of the International Crimes Tribunal is taking steps to seek trial of Awami League as an organization.”
He added that based on his observation, there is no possibility of lifting the ban in the near future, not even before the elections.

Election Timeline Confirmed
Responding to a question about the Chief Adviser’s recent foreign media interview, the Law Adviser said,
“প্রধান উপদেষ্টা বার বার জানিয়েছেন, আগামী ফেব্রুয়ারির প্রথমার্ধেই নির্বাচন অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। ফেব্রুয়ারির পরে এই সরকারের কারও থাকার ইচ্ছা নেই।”
Translation: “The Chief Adviser has repeatedly confirmed that elections will be held in the first half of February. After February, no one from this government intends to stay in power.”
Strict Action in the Hills
Dr. Asif Nazrul also warned against those trying to create unrest in the hill areas. He said strong measures will be taken against anyone disturbing the peace there.
