The iconic ‘boat’ symbol of the Awami League has been seen again on the official website of the Election Commission (EC). On July 17, the EC site showed the party listed as “Awami League (registration suspended)”, with the boat symbol visible next to it.
Symbol Visible, But Ban Still in Place
Although the symbol has reappeared, the party’s registration status remains suspended. The website clearly states that the Awami League’s registration is currently on hold. There has been no official explanation yet from the Election Commission about why the symbol was restored.

Political Activities Officially Banned
Following months of unrest, the interim government announced a full ban on all political activities of the Awami League and its affiliated groups on May 12, 2025. Soon after, the EC suspended the party’s registration.
Confusion and Questions
The reappearance of the party’s symbol has raised questions among political observers and citizens alike. With no formal statement from the EC or the government, many are wondering if it signals a change in policy—or simply a technical error.
