Ayesha Siddiqua Meghla, the Assistant General Secretary (AGS) of Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU), has made a powerful appeal to reform the nation’s education system by incorporating life-skill education as a mandatory part of school learning.

In a thoughtful Facebook post, Meghla emphasized that students must learn essential survival and technical skills—such as self-defense, swimming, first aid, fire safety, earthquake response, and basic technical knowledge to face modern challenges with confidence.

She stated, “From an early age, every student should be taught how to protect themselves, provide basic medical help, and respond effectively during emergencies like fires or earthquakes.”

Meghla also criticized the current focus on non-essential extracurriculars, noting, “Developed nations progress because they prioritize life-skill education. We, too, must move beyond teaching only dance, music, and cooking to equip our youth with practical skills that truly empower them.”

Her post has sparked widespread appreciation among students, educators, and parents who believe that integrating life-skill and technical education could transform the future of Bangladesh’s education system.
