Joining him at the top was his long-time climbing partner, Bire Tamang. This marks the first-ever Bangladeshi achievement of climbing an 8,000-meter peak without artificial oxygen.

Other Bangladeshi Climbers on Manaslu

Along with Babar Ali, Tanvir Ahmed also climbed Manaslu on the same day. Earlier, on Thursday (September 25) at 3:00 am, Taufiq Ahmed Tamal reached the summit.

Journey to the Summit

On Tuesday (September 23), the three Bangladeshi climbers left the base camp and reached Camp 2 at 6,325 meters. Before this push, they had spent several days climbing up and down between camps to adjust their bodies to the high altitude and extreme cold.

About Manaslu

Manaslu is the eighth-highest peak in the world, standing at 8,163 meters (26,781 feet) above sea level. It is located in the Mansiri Himal range of the Nepalese Himalayas in west-central Nepal.

Despite being the 8th highest, it is considered the fourth deadliest mountain in the world due to its dangerous conditions.

Babar Ali’s Earlier Everest Success

Earlier, on May 19, 2024, Babar Ali became the sixth Bangladeshi to climb Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak.

Other Bangladeshis who have conquered Everest before him include:

  • Musa Ibrahim
  • Abdul Muhith
  • Nishat Majumdar
  • Wasfia Nazreen

In 2013, Khaled Hossain also reached the Everest summit but tragically passed away while descending.
