Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain, Advisor on Religious Affairs, announced on Sunday (7 December) that the iconic National Mosque, Baitul Mokarram, will undergo a major beautification and modernization project costing 1.99 billion BDT. The briefing was held at the Baitul Mokarram hall of the Islamic Foundation. He said that:
জাতীয় মসজিদ বায়তুল মোকাররমের উন্নয়নে সবচেয়ে বড় যে উদ্যোগটি গ্রহণ করা হয়েছে, সেটি হলো বায়তুল মোকাররমের আধুনিকায়ন, সৌন্দর্যবর্ধন ও উন্নয়ন শীর্ষক প্রকল্প। এ প্রকল্পে ব্যয় ধরা হয়েছে ১৯৯ কোটি টাকা।
Translation: The largest initiative undertaken for the development of the National Mosque Baitul Mokarram is the project focused on its modernization, beautification, and overall development. The estimated cost of this project is 1.99 billion BDT.

The approved project will cover:
- Internal beautification and modernization of the mosque.
- Installation of modern sanitation systems.
- Renovation of outdoor areas.
- Construction of office buildings and minarets.
- Other necessary development works.
Also he added that:
Translation: We will be able to start this project as soon as possible, Inshallah. The government, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs, is committed to ensuring a proper environment for worship at the mosque. We seek everyone’s cooperation and advice. In particular, we expect responsible behavior from all to maintain the cleanliness of the mosque.
Dr. Hossain also urged the public for cooperation, saying,
আমরা যত্রতত্র নোংরা-আবর্জনা ফেলব না, আমরা ডাস্টবিন ব্যবহার করব। মসজিদের অজুখানা ও টয়লেট নিজে ব্যবহার করব এবং অন্যের ব্যবহার উপযোগী রাখতে যত্নশীল হবো।
Translation: “We all must maintain cleanliness. Avoid littering, use dustbins, and take care of ablution areas and toilets so that they remain usable for others.”
The Baitul Mokarram renovation project represents a significant step toward enhancing the mosque’s infrastructure and worship experience, with public cooperation key to its success.
