Bangladesh and Bhutan have conveyed optimism that they would be capable of maximizing the potential of the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), which they have signed between the two neighboring countries.
On Sunday (16 February), based on the foreign ministry’s published press release, this was observed when Bhutanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Rinchen Kuentsyl made a farewell call on Foreign Secretary MD Jashim Uddin at the State Guest House Padma. Through this meeting, both parties discussed numerous perspectives of the Bangladesh-Bhutan bilateral relations. For establishing a Bhutanese Special Economic Zone in Kurigram, they also discussed possibilities over the signed MoU on Cooperation.
Bhutan has a special place in the hearts of the people of Bangladesh, through it was the first country of ken Bangladesh, the foreign secretary said. Through the decades, he said, “The relations deepened in depth and dimensions, expanding areas of cooperation in trade and commerce, power, education, culture exchange, and also people-to-people contacts”. On the other hand, Jashim said, “There remains immense potential to further enhance cooperation between two countries”.
On the basis of benevolence and mutual interests, the ambassador confirmed Bhutan’s pledge to further strengthen ties with Bangladesh. Also, both countries agreed to have several opportunities to explore under the patronage of regional cooperation, especially Saarc and Bimstec. Afterward, the foreign minister hosted a farewell lunch in honor of the outgoing delegate.
