Bangladesh Bank Honor National Hero: A Tribute in Every Taka
Bangladesh Bank is introducing a new series of commemorative banknotes to honor each national hero of the country. The redesigned notes, including a Tk100 note featuring Sher-e-Bangla A K Fazlul Huq, aim to connect citizens with the legacy and pride of Bangladesh’s most respected historical figures.
Among the new notes is a Tk100 denomination featuring a portrait of Sher-e-Bangla A K Fazlul Huq, one of the most respected and remembered leaders in Bangladesh’s history. It offering citizens their first look at this meaningful tribute.
These fresh notes, printed in denominations of Tk20, Tk100, Tk500, and Tk1000, are more than updated currency. They represent a celebration of Bangladesh’s legacy and a way to keep the memories of its heroes alive. Each note carries a piece of the country’s story, one that will now move through shops, wallets, and lives with every transaction.
According to a senior official at Bangladesh Bank, this initiative is meant to bring history closer to everyday life. “We want people, specially the younger generation, to see and feel our heritage. These notes are a symbol of identity, sacrifice, and pride.”
The idea of redesigning the banknotes emerged in December of last year. The interim government instructed the central bank to take this step as part of a broader effort to inspire national unity and educate the public through everyday symbols.
This new release comes after an unusual decision made earlier this year. For the first time, the central bank did not distribute fresh notes before the recent Eid celebrations. Traditionally, there is a surge in demand for new currency during religious festivals, especially for gift-giving and market shopping. However, officials say this year the focus was on stabilizing cash circulation amid rising inflation and economic pressure.
The new banknotes are expected to come with improved security features and more durable material, aligning with modern standards. Bangladesh Bank has said the release will be gradual and closely monitored to ensure a smooth transition. Public awareness campaigns are likely to follow so that citizens can easily recognize and adapt to the new designs.

These notes are not just a medium of exchange. They are living memories of the people who built the nation, who dreamed of a better future, and who stood for the values we still hold dear. People like Sher-e-Bangla are not always remembered in day-to-day life, but now his face will travel with every Tk100 note, telling a story to anyone who stops and looks.
While the official release date has not yet been confirmed, anticipation is already growing. This initiative comes at a time when Bangladesh is striving to balance its growth with its roots, embracing development while staying grounded in its history.
When the new notes are finally in hand, many citizens may pause for a moment and smile. In that simple act, a connection is made. A story is passed on. A hero is remembered.
