J-10C Comes into Global Focus Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

Amid renewed tensions between India and Pakistan, a Chinese warplane named J-10C has suddenly become the center of discussion. Reports claim that China used this jet to respond to Indian attacks and that it even challenged India’s powerful Rafale fighter jets. Now, Bangladesh is planning to buy this same fighter jet, bringing new attention to the country’s military strategy.

Bangladesh to Become Second South Asian Operator After Pakistan

According to a report published earlier this year by Defense Security Asia, Bangladesh is moving forward with a plan to purchase J-10C multirole fighter jets from China. If the deal is finalized, Bangladesh will become the second country in South Asia after Pakistan to use this advanced fighter aircraft.

Plan to Replace Old F-7 Fighter Jets

Local media reports state that the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) is planning to buy 16 J-10C fighter jets. These new jets will replace the older Chinese-made F-7 interceptors, which have been in use for many years. The upgrade is part of the country’s goal to modernize its air defence system and improve combat readiness.

Air Chief Highlights Need for Modern Defence

Bangladesh Air Force Chief Air Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan has said that strengthening the country’s air defence is very important. He added, “We are working hard to acquire modern fighter jets and attack helicopters.” His statement shows the country’s strong commitment to building a modern and powerful air force.

A Shift in South Asia’s Air Power Balance

Military experts believe that this move by Bangladesh could change the air defence situation in South Asia. Neighbouring countries like India, Pakistan, and China are already part of an arms race, trying to get better aircraft and defence systems. Now, Bangladesh’s step to buy the J-10C could increase its power and help maintain regional balance.

Long-Standing Military Ties with China

Bangladesh has a long history of defence cooperation with China. That relationship will enter a new phase with the purchase of the J-10C.Prior to this, China’s military might in the area was bolstered by Pakistan’s 2022 acquisition of 25 J-10C fighter fighters.

China’s military dominance in the region was established earlier when Pakistan bought 25 J-10C fighter fighters from China in 2022. The takeover of Bangladesh will deepen these ties by increasing China’s role in South Asian defence.

A more robust and safer Bangladesh

It is anticipated that the J-10C will assist Bangladesh in strengthening its national security and military capacities. Many will be keeping a careful eye on how this deal will affect future regional defence as the negotiations progress.
