After a long gap of 19 years, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is finally bringing back its prestigious BCB Award Night. The last time this event was organized was in 2006. The award ceremony, which recognizes and inspires cricketers, coaches, and organizers, is expected to take place before the Asia Cup 2025. If that is not possible, the event may be rescheduled after the national team’s return from the Asia Cup.
A Long Wait of 19 Years
The BCB Award Night has been absent for almost two decades. Since 2006, the event was not organized even once. This year, under the leadership of Aminul Islam Bulbul, the board has finally decided to restart it.
The initiative is seen as an effort to bring back the festive atmosphere where cricketers are rewarded for their performances and contributions.

Inspiration from Other Cricket Boards
Recently, Cricket South Africa (CSA) hosted their own award night with a grand ceremony, honouring their best players of the year. Similar events are held regularly by Cricket Australia (CA), New Zealand Cricket (NZC), and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
However, the BCB had stopped hosting such an event for nearly two decades. This year, Bangladesh wants to revive that tradition to inspire its cricketers.
Possible Date Before Asia Cup
The Asia Cup 2025 will begin on 9 September in the UAE, and the Bangladesh team is scheduled to leave for the tournament on 6 September.
Before that, Bangladesh will play a home series against the Netherlands in Sylhet from 30 August to 3 September. The award night is expected to take place in the short gap between the Netherlands series and the team’s departure for the Asia Cup.
If arranging it before the Asia Cup becomes difficult, then the BCB plans to host the ceremony after the team returns, likely in October or November.
Purpose of the Award Night
The event is not just a celebration but also a way to recognize outstanding performances and motivate players. Awards will be given to:
-
Cricketers of the year
-
Coaches
-
Organizers
The BCB aims to restore the same excitement and recognition that other boards around the world provide to their players.
Event Management Plans
To organize the award night, the BCB has already started looking for event management companies. Six companies have expressed their interest in managing the ceremony.
The BCB hopes to finalize the arrangements and complete the event by 5 September.
