Bangladesh has restricted visas for Indians. On Thursday, a confidential official letter instructed the Deputy High Commission in Kolkata to withdraw the decision to issue visas to Indians extensively. However, no formal announcement has been made about this yet. From today (Friday), the Kolkata High Commission has started implementing this directive. According to sources within the mission, the order to reduce visa issuance came from Dhaka to Kolkata. The directive has been in effect since Friday. However, no such instructions have been given for missions in Delhi or Assam. Earlier, after miscreants attacked and vandalized Bangladesh’s Assistant High Commission in Tripura’s Agartala, the Bangladesh government suspended all activities there. The visa issuance process for Indians was also halted.
