Bangladesh secures a $116 million loan from the World Bank for three development projects.

As the year comes to a close, the World Bank has approved a significant loan proposal for Bangladesh, amounting to $1.16 billion for three major development projects. This decision was made during a board meeting in Washington, with the funds set to address critical reforms in health, water, sanitation, and climate-resilient development. The announcement was shared in a press release on Friday, December 20.
According to the World Bank, Bangladesh faces severe challenges from various types of pollution, which are hampering its overall development. To tackle this, the Planning Commission is planning to revise its medium-term budget framework. Under this revised approach, $500 million will be allocated to implement environmentally friendly initiatives that promote sustainable growth.
In addition, $380 million has been approved to enhance the health and sanitation systems in the Sylhet and Chattogram divisions. This initiative aims to benefit 5.1 million people, significantly reducing maternal and child mortality rates in these regions.
Furthermore, the World Bank has approved another $280 million loan proposal to ensure access to clean water for 200,000 households in Chattogram. This project will play a critical role in improving public health and living standards in the area.
The loans are part of the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s efforts in tackling environmental challenges and ensuring sustainable development across key sectors.
