Bangladesh Sees 3% Remittance Growth in January 2025: Reaching $2.18B Amid Banking Limits

Even with new banking restrictions in place, Bangladeshis abroad continued to send money home, pushing remittance inflows up by 3% in January 2025. A total of $2.18 billion came in last month, despite the Bangladesh Bank imposing a ceiling on how much banks could collect in remittances. While the growth rate in January was slower than last year’s 7% rise, the overall trend remains strong.

From July to January of this fiscal year, Bangladesh received $15.96 billion in remittances—an impressive 24% jump compared to the same period last year. For many families, these inflows are a lifeline, helping cover essentials and keep businesses running. The question is now the banking restrictions can slow things down in the coming months. For now, workers abroad continue to find ways to keep supporting their loved ones back home.
