In a dominant performance in the Under-19 Women’s Asia Cup, Bangladesh defeated Malaysia by a massive 120 runs in their second group-stage match on Tuesday, December 17, in Kuala Lumpur. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Bangladesh posted a total of 149/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Openers Fahmida Khatun (26) and Moza. Eva (19) gave the team a solid start, adding 45 runs in 5.4 overs. However, it was Jannatul Mawa, who top-scored with an unbeaten 45 runs off 45 balls, and Sadia Akter, who played a blistering knock of 31* off 19 balls, including three fours and a six, that propelled Bangladesh to a challenging total. Despite a shaky middle order, the team managed to recover well, ending with a competitive score of 149 runs.
In reaction, Malaysia was bundled out for just 29 runs in 14.5 overs, with no batter managing to reach double figures. Opener Nur Alia Binte Mohammad Hairun top-scored with 5 runs, which included the only boundary of the innings. Bangladesh’s bowlers were in sensational form, with Nishita Akter Nishi leading the charge, claiming five wickets for just 3 runs in 3.5 overs. Habiba Islam (3/5) and Anisa Akter (2/5) also made significant contributions with the ball, picking up key wickets and stifling the Malaysian batting. Malaysia’s batting was completely dismantled, with three batters dismissed for ducks, three for one run, and two others for three runs each. The remarkable bowling performance by Bangladesh saw Malaysia’s resistance crumble, securing Bangladesh a commanding victory and extending their winning streak in the tournament.
