The incident took place on Friday (December 19) afternoon at the Damdamia border of North Ranikhai Union in the upazila. The deceased are Md. Ashikur (22), a resident of East Turung village under Companiganj police station, and Md. Yakub Uddin (30), a resident of Baramsiddhipur village in Ranikhai Union of the same upazila.

Companiganj police stated that it is initially suspected that the two Bangladeshi citizens had gone to India to steal betel nuts. They lost their lives there in firing by the Khasias. After the incident, relatives of the deceased brought the bodies back. Currently, the bodies are in police custody.

On this matter, Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Companiganj Police Station, said,

“মরদেহ ময়নাতদন্ত শেষে এ ঘটনায় পরবর্তী আইনগত ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ করা হবে।”
Translate : “After the post-mortem, further legal action will be taken in this case.”
