Record Remittance Inflow Last Fiscal Year
One of the biggest strengths of Bangladesh’s economy is the remittance sent by expatriate workers. In the last fiscal year, this remittance income reached a new peak.
In the fiscal year 2024-25, the country received 30.32 billion US dollars, marking the highest remittance inflow in the country’s history for any single fiscal year.
This flow of money not only provides financial support to families but also plays a vital role in stabilizing and developing the national economy. It’s help control inflation and meet import expenditures by supplying foreign currency.
The significant rise in last fiscal year represents a 26.80 percent increase compared to the previous fiscal year 2023-24. While the remittance was 23.91 billion dollars then, this year it crossed the 30 billion dollar mark. Earlier, the highest remittance record was set in the 2020-21 fiscal year with 24.77 billion dollars.
Behind this growth lies the labor and hard work of Bangladeshis working abroad. They support their families at home while contributing to the country’s economic wheel. Especially workers in the Middle East, Europe, and North America regularly send their earnings, which support the national economy.
Every month shows a consistent increase in this money. March alone saw the highest monthly remittance ever, about 32.9 billion taka (roughly 329 million USD). April and May also recorded the second and third highest monthly inflows with 27.5 billion and 29.7 billion taka respectively.
For the country, it is not just money flow it is a national asset. The efforts and sacrifices of expatriates are a driving force behind the country’s development.

This money improves living standards, expands educational opportunities, enables access to healthcare, and often creates new business and investment opportunities for many families.
Therefore, it is necessary to better utilize this strong aspect of the economy. The government should increase facilities for expatriates, ensure safe and low-cost money transfers, and adopt policies for expatriate welfare to encourage more remittance inflows.
While global economic uncertainty prevails, Bangladesh’s remittance income continues to grow steadily, strengthening the country’s financial position and laying the foundation for future development. This success of remittance inflow stands as a shining example of Bangladesh’s economic progress.
Expressing gratitude and respect to every expatriate Bangladeshi, each dollar they send is an invaluable chapter in the story of the nation’s development.
