New Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam

June 19, 2025, Bangladesh has witnessed a significant change in its diplomatic landscape. Asad Alam Siam, a 15th batch BCS (Foreign Affairs Cadre) officer and current Ambassador of Bangladesh to the United States, has been appointed as the country’s 28th Foreign Secretary.

The Administration Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this in a notification on Thursday (June 19) on the orders of the President. The notification states, “Asad Alam Siam will serve as the Foreign Secretary until further orders.” The order will come into effect from next Friday (June 20).

Promotion of an experienced diplomat

Asad Alam Siam is an experienced diplomat who has been serving Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry and foreign missions for a long time. Before joining the new post, he was serving as the Ambassador to the United States.

Earlier, he was the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations Office in Vienna, the capital of Austria. He also served as the Ambassador and Chief of Protocol to the Philippines.

Asad Alam Siam will replace the current Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin. Jasim Uddin went on leave on May 22 and was subsequently removed from the post by the interim government. The change comes just eight months after taking charge.
